Gifts for Mom

Today on Mother's Day I thank God for my beautiful and healthy children. I am thankful he has trusted me enough to allow me to be a mom.

I received two wonderful gifts today. The first was a dozen roses which were hand delivered by Zac who said to me, "thank you for being my mother!" The next was an afternoon nap; it truly is the simple things in life that mean the most.

I felt compelled on Mother's Day to open up a discussion about gifts for new moms and moms of multiples. Please feel free to jump in with your own ideas.

I have three ideas. The first two are good for new moms and moms of multiples. The third is geared specifically to moms of multiples.

1. Cook a meal or pick up a meal and deliver it to the new mom. After the birth of a child the last thing you want to do is cook or think about what to cook. Besides the fact you want to spend every waking moment with your child, you are exhausted and sore. I found especially with the triplets there was no time to cook. I immediately lost 18 pounds from not eating and my mom who was staying with me lost 8. One day my sister-in-law delivered food to us and you would have thought we hit the lottery!

2. Arrange for a cleaning service to go and clean the home. Again being a new mom you are busy, tired and sore. I wanted to clean so badly but didn't have the time or energy. You know how good it feels to have a clean house. A clean house in the middle of chaos is a priceless gift.

3. A great gift for moms of multiples is a bottle propping gadget of some kind. A mom of multiples will be alone at some point and it is impossible to keep the babies on the same schedule if you cannot feed them all at the same time. Also there will be times a care giver may need to be left alone with the babies while the new mom attends a follow up doctor appointment or simply needs to get out for a mental break.
